Origin and history

The church Saint-Jean-Baptiste de La Bazoche-Gouet, located in the department of Eure-et-Loir in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a Catholic building built between the thirteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Ranked a historic monument by order of 13 April 1907, it is characterized by a central nave with shingles, low-sides, and a choir finished with a polygonal apse. The absence of transept is a notable architectural feature of this monument.

The 1541 glass windows of the Abside illustrate scenes of the Passion and have been classified as historical monuments since 1908. These 16th-century stained glass windows, distributed in bays 1 to 4, were the subject of successive restorations: in the 17th century under the impulse of the Bourbon-Conti family (local teachers from 1676 to 1719), in the 19th century, then in 1974 by the master glassmaker Michel Petit. The other stained glass windows, outside the choir, date from the 19th century and were made by the Lorin de Chartres workshops (neo-roman style) and the Carmel du Mans factory (neo-gothic style).

The church belongs to the parish of Saint Lubin du Perche, integrated into the dean of Perche. Its property belongs to the municipality of La Bazoche-Gouet. The building, mostly built in the 16th century, preserves some 13th century remains, reflecting its architectural evolution over centuries. The bay windows and polygonal abside make this a remarkable example of the region's religious heritage.
