Origin and history

Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Sore Church is a religious monument located in the commune of Sore, New Aquitaine. Its origins date back to the 12th century, making it a medieval architectural testimony. The traces of its evolution are visible through the additions and transformations made in the sixteenth, nineteenth (2nd quarter) and twentieth centuries (1st quarter), reflecting the liturgical and aesthetic needs of successive epochs.

In the Middle Ages, parish churches like Sore played a central role in community life, serving as places of worship, assembly and social organization. In New Aquitaine, a region marked by rich history and varied influences, these buildings were often at the heart of villages, symbolizing both faith and local cohesion. Subsequent changes, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, may correspond to restorations or adaptations to liturgical norms or architectural tastes of the time.
