Origin and history

The church of Saint-Jean de Dissay-sous-Courcillon is a religious building located in the department of Sarthe, in the Pays de la Loire region. Its choir, dating from the 12th century, is the oldest part of the building. This section was added to the additional inventory of historic monuments on February 4, 1927, highlighting its heritage importance.

The two naves of the church were later built, in the 13th and 14th centuries. These additions reflect the architectural evolution and growing needs of the local community. The building, owned by the commune, remains a testimony of medieval styles in this region.

The church is part of a historical context where parish churches played a central role in the social and religious life of the villages. At that time, Sarthe was marked by a rural economy, with dominant agricultural activities and a community organization strongly linked to the Church.
