Origin and history

The Saint-Laurent church of Palluau-sur-Indre is a Catholic building located in the municipality of the same name, in the Indre department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. It belongs to the natural region of Boischaut Nord and depends on the archdiocese of Bourges. Built between the 11th and 15th centuries, it features architectural elements characteristic of these periods, including a unique nave, a transept, a choir with semicircular apse, and an crypt under the choir.

The church has been partially classified as historical monuments since 7 March 1945, for its oldest parts (church, apse and crypt). The rest of the building, as well as the soils of the surrounding plots, were inscribed by order of 11 June 2013. The walls and vaults of the church preserve traces of murals of two distinct periods: some date from the 15th century and cover others, older ones. Among the visible representations are a Virgin in majesty and a character in almond glory.

The building is located on Rue Basse in Palluau-sur-Indre and is part of both the communal and private property. It is part of a historical context marked by the importance of parish churches in the religious and social organization of Boischaut, a region where Romanesque and Gothic constructions testify to the evolution of artistic and liturgical practices between the Middle Ages and the end of the medieval period.
