Origin and history
Saint-Laurent Church in Saint-Laurent-de-Condel is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Calvados, Normandy. Built in the 13th century, it is distinguished by its choir, which is the oldest part of the monument. This choir, dating from the early 13th century, has been listed as historic monuments since 18 March 1927, highlighting its heritage and architectural importance.
The nave and tower of origin, characterized by an opus spicatum (technique of laying bricks or spiked stones) and a wooden frame, were replaced in 1888 by the current structures. This replacement marks a significant architectural evolution, adapting the building to the needs and standards of the modern era. The church formerly depended on the former diocese of Bayeux and was placed under the patronage of Fontenay Abbey, an element that reflected its historical and religious anchor in the region.
Today, Saint-Laurent Church remains an emblematic place in the commune of Saint-Laurent-de-Condel. His choir, protected for nearly a century, attracts the attention of medieval heritage lovers. Although the information on the visits or services offered is limited, its status as a historical monument and its location in the heart of Normandy make it a point of interest for those passionate about history and religious architecture.
