Saint-Loup Church: Order of 4 October 1988
Origin and history
The church Saint-Loup de Boudes is a Catholic building located in the village of Boudes, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is distinguished by an architecture combining several epochs: a unique nave of three spans and a semicircular apse partially Romanesque, dating from the 12th century. The door, decorated with an archvolt with floral motifs and vantals with medieval hangings, bears witness to this ancient period. The lateral chapels, added in the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as the first floor of the square bell tower, illuminated by prismatic twin bays, illustrate the subsequent extensions.
The bell tower, of square plan, presents a first level probably built in the sixteenth century, while its second floor, of neo-Roman style, was added at the end of the nineteenth century. The building was classified as historic monuments on October 4, 1988, recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the commune of Boudes, the church retains remarkable architectural elements, such as prismatic bays and floral decorations, reflecting stylistic evolutions between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
The location of the church, in the heart of the village (9002 Church Square), and its ranking among the historical monuments of the Puy-de-Dôme make it an important testimony to the rural religious heritage of the region. Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its role in local history, although little detail is provided on the sponsors or artisans involved in its construction. The absence of specific statements on contemporary uses (visits, cults) limits the knowledge of its current functioning.
