Origin and history
The church Saint-Luc de Voillecomte is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Haute-Marne, in the Grand Est region. It is dependent on the parish of Saint-Jean-l-I-Évangéliste, attached to the diocese of Langres. Its architecture blends medieval and modern elements, reflecting a multisevere history linked to local spiritual life.
In the 12th century, the church was part of the Benedictine Abbey of Montier-en-Der, an influential religious centre in the region. The choir and tower of the bell tower, raised during this period, bear witness to its Romanesque origin. The nave and its collaterals, rebuilt around 1779, illustrate a renovation phase marked by a date engraved on an entrance of the frame.
The church tower, the oldest element, was classified as historical monuments by order of 26 December 1906. This square bell tower, pierced with campanary bays and covered with a four-sided roof, embodies Champagne Romanesque architecture. The western facade, sober and massive, as well as the sacristy of the 19th century, complete this ensemble built in stone and stone.
The interior houses an 18th century canvas depicting Saint Luke, classified as an object of historical monuments in 1978. This furniture, combined with the very structure of the building, highlights the church's cultural and spiritual role in the local heritage.
