Church of Loisan (Box E 48): registration by decree of 16 December 1974
Origin and history
Saint-Luperc de Loissan is a Catholic church located in the commune of Arblade-le-Haut, Gers department. It is located on an isolated site, formerly linked to the parish of Loisan. Its history dates back to a first construction on a Gallo-Roman site, showing an ancient occupation of the place.
The original Romanesque church was destroyed during the Hundred Years War and rebuilt in the 13th century in Gothic style. It then underwent many changes until the 18th century, reflecting the architectural changes and the needs of the local community. These successive transformations marked its present appearance, mixing Gothic elements and later additions.
The building was listed as a historic monument in 1974, recognizing its heritage value. This official protection preserves its architecture and history, while offering a witness to medieval and modern times in the region. Today, it remains an emblematic place for the religious heritage of Gascon.
