Tour-clocher (ruins) (Case B 106): entry by order of 9 December 1986

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Maclou d'Houvin, located in the commune of Houvin-Houvigneul (Pas-de-Calais), is a religious building dating back to the 15th century. This monument, now partially in ruins, bears witness to the late medieval sacred architecture of the region. Its most remarkable element, the tower-clocher, was inscribed under the title of Historical Monuments by order of 9 December 1986, highlighting its heritage value despite its fragmentary state.

The church's location in the heart of the village reflects its central role in community life in the Middle Ages. At that time parish churches such as Saint-Maclou served not only as places of worship, but also as social and administrative landmarks for the inhabitants. The Hauts-de-France region, then marked by a rural economy and local exchanges, saw these buildings play a key role in the organisation of villages. Today, the church belongs to the commune and its partial state (ruins of the tower) recalls the challenges of preserving the rural heritage.

Available sources, including the Monumentum database and Merimée data, specify that the exact address is 4 Rue de l'Eglise, with an INSEE code (62459) confirming its anchoring in the Pas-de-Calais department. The accuracy of its location is estimated as "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), although adjustments via Street View may be necessary. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, services) or possible contemporary uses (rent, accommodation).
