Origin and history

The church of Saint-Maffre de Castelmayran, located in Tarn-et-Garonne, is a religious building dating back to the 13th century. It consists of a nave of three spans, four chapels between the foothills, and a choir with pans. Only one chapel retains its medieval vault, while the rest of the building underwent major modifications, including a brick vault in 1875.

The church was originally a priory dependent on Moissac Abbey. Reconstructed between 1610 and 1620, it was enriched with a southern lateral chapel dated 1644. The ship was vaulted in 1867, and two side chapels were added in 1875. The bell tower, a wall-pinion arch type, houses five bells and is accessible by a turret staircase.

The brick facades reflect successive architectural changes. The building was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 9 September 1933. Today, it belongs to the municipality of Castelmayran and retains traces of its monastic and parish past.
