Origin and history
The church Saint-Martial de Seuillet is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Seuillet, in the department of Allier, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 12th century, it represents a typical example of the Romanesque architecture of this period, with a single nave vaulted in a broken cradle, a choir finished with a cul-de-four apse, and an octagonal bell tower. His plan also includes two arms of transept and a cross surmounted by a dome on trunks, characteristic elements of bourbonese Romanesque churches.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 17 August 1945, the church underwent subsequent modifications, including the addition of two side chapels: one, vaulted on a cross of warheads, dating from the 16th century, while the other is of modern era. The modillon cornices adorning the exterior walls recall the original Romanesque influence. Owned by the municipality of Seuillet, it bears witness to the local religious and architectural history, while remaining an active place of worship.
Available sources, such as the Merimée base, Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a protected monument and highlight its heritage importance in the Bourbonnais. Its exact address, 2 Chemin du Lavoir, and its Insee code (03273) allow to situate it precisely in the historical landscape of the Allier. No information is provided on its current accessibility or contemporary uses other than cultuals.
