Origin and history

The church of St.Martin of Agnez-lès-Duisans is a religious monument whose construction spans centuries, from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Located in the village of Agnez-lès-Duisans, in the department of Pas-de-Calais, it embodies the architectural and spiritual evolution of the region through these periods. Its classification as Historic Monument by order of 4 January 1921 bears witness to its heritage value and the need to preserve its heritage.

The location of the church, at 64 Rue de l'Eglise, is documented with an accuracy deemed satisfactory a priori (note of 6/10). Owned by the commune, it is mentioned in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 62011, attached to the territory of Arras and to the region of Hauts-de-France. Although available sources (Monumentum, internal data) do not specify its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its protected status makes it a central element of the local heritage.

The periods of construction, covering the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, reflect the stylistic and technical transformations of the period. These centuries were marked, in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, by a rural life organized around parishes, where churches played a social, religious and sometimes economic role. The lack of details on sponsors or artisans in the sources limits the knowledge of the specific actors in its construction, but its early ranking (1921) underlines its historical importance from the beginning of the twentieth century.
