Origin and history

The Church of St.Martin is a Catholic building located in the northern department of Erre, in the Hauts-de-France region. Although its initial construction period is not specified, its history is marked by regular interventions, reflecting its local importance. A cemetery, formerly adjacent to the south of the church, disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century, bearing witness to the urban and funeral developments of the commune.

Over the centuries, the church has undergone numerous restorations to preserve its structure. In 1857, the roof of the arrow was renewed, followed by repairs in 1876 after the damage caused by a hurricane. The stones laid in 1870, considered too degraded, were covered with a coating in 1930. The arrow was restored again in 1933, illustrating the challenges posed by weather and weather.

Major work continues in the 21st century: between 2001 and 2003, the bell tower, at risk, is consolidated, allowing the return of the bells Marie-Josephine and Marie-Jeanne. In 2015, a global renovation was undertaken, including the cover of the choir and the nave, the restoration of the walls, the replacement of the stained glass windows, and the reopening of the "gate of paradise". This work, costing €800,000, is financed by public and local grants. An extension, whose roof had disappeared for more than a century, is partly rebuilt, marking a symbolic step in the preservation of heritage.
