Origin and history
Saint Martin d'Insos Church is a Catholic building in the commune of Préchac, Gironde, New Aquitaine. Built in the 14th century, it is distinguished by its steeple reinforced with foothills, extended by a single nave rebuilt in the 16th century. The triumphal arch of the thirteenth century, opening onto the choir and the apse, bears witness to its medieval heritage, while the bedside preserves Romanesque elements such as its modillons and foothills.
Under the Old Regime, the parish of Insos depended on the seigneury of Cazeneuve for the temporal and Lucmau for the spiritual. After the Revolution, it was attached to Préchac. The church, dedicated to Saint Martin, is surrounded by rare houses in the heart of the girondine moors. Ranked a historic monument in 1925, it has benefited from recent restorations.
The building combines a variety of architectural styles: arches in a full-pitted cradle for the choir, nave lambrissed, and a characteristic bell tower arcade. Its isolation in a clearing, accessible by a forest road, reinforces its picturesque character. Sources also mention links with neighbouring municipalities such as Lucmau, highlighting its historic role in the region.
