Origin and history
The Church of St.Martin of Cazarilh-Laspènes is a Roman Catholic religious building built in the 11th and 12th centuries. Located in the department of Haute-Garonne, it is isolated about 100 metres west of the village, bordering the departmental road 51a. Its architecture is characterized by a rectangular plan facing east-west, extended by a semicircular apse in the east. The bell tower, square in shape, surmounts the nave, while Lombard bands adorn the abside. Several funerary cippes in use are visible on the exterior walls, demonstrating the reuse of ancient materials.
The church has been listed as historic monuments since 18 November 1926, recognizing its heritage value. Its bell tower, pierced with bays in the middle of the wall (simple or twins on each side), and its circular apse bedside illustrate the typical features of Southern Romanesque art. Owned by the commune, it remains an architectural and historical testimony of the Occitanie region, anchored in the rural landscape of the Haute-Garonne.
