Origin and history

Église Saint-Martin de Coulombs-en-Valois is a Catholic church located in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries, it embodies the medieval religious architecture of this period. Classified as a historical monument in 1987, it houses a reliquary dedicated to Saint Héloïse, a local figure venerated as patron saint of the parish.

Saint Heloïse, recluse and benefactor of the Benedictine abbey of Coulombs, is represented in a stained glass window of the church. Married successively to Hugues de Saint-André-de-la-Marche and the knight of Azzolin, she devoted her life to prayer after their death, living in a cell near the abbey. His gifts, as well as those of Count Galeran, allowed the abbey to acquire land in the Eure and Yvelines. Its reliquary, in the form of a bust, is now preserved in the church.

The building, owned by the commune, bears witness to the religious and architectural history of the region. Its classification in 1987 underlines its heritage importance, while its location in Coulombs-en-Valois makes it an emblematic place of the Seine-et-Marne heritage.
