Origin and history
The Church of Saint-Martin de Fresne-l'Archêque is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Eure in Normandy. Built at the beginning of the 13th century, it is today in the commune of Frenelles-en-Vexin, resulting from the merger in 2019 with the former commune of Fresne-l'Archêque. The present building, dating from the first half of the 13th century, was partially renovated with the addition of a porch in the 18th century and a sacristy in the mid-19th century.
The church has been classified as historical monuments since 24 January 1927. This protection concerns the entire building, which remains the property of the municipality. Its architecture reflects the characteristics of Norman rural churches of this period, with subsequent additions reflecting its evolution over the centuries.
The church's location in Fresne-l'Archêque (now integrated with Frenelles-en-Vexin) is part of a territory marked by the religious and architectural history of Normandy. The monument, still in place, illustrates the medieval heritage of the region, while bearing traces of later modifications, such as the 18th century porch and the 19th century sacristy.
