Origin and history
The Saint-Martin church of La Celle-sous-Montmirail is located in the new commune of Dhuys and Morin-en-Brie, created on 1 January 2016 by the merger of four communes: Artonges, La Celle-sous-Montmirail, Fontenelle-en-Brie and Marchais-en-Brie. This town is located in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region, and is crossed by two major rivers: the Dhuis and the Petit Morin, which influence its relief and landscape.
The region, marked by an altered ocean climate, is characterized by dispersed rural habitat and an economy historically linked to agriculture and water resource management. The church, as a central monument of the former commune of La Celle-sous-Montmirail, bears witness to the religious and community importance in this rural area, close to the southern limit of the Hauts-de-France.
The communal territory is covered by the "Small and Grand Morin" Water Planning and Management Scheme (SAGE), approved in 2016, which underlines the importance of local rivers in the organisation of the territory. Dhuis and Petit Morin, which cross the commune, have also given their name to the new commune, reflecting their historical and geographical role.
The commune is part of the community of agglomeration of the Region of Château-Thierry and is administratively attached to the arrondissement of Château-Thierry. Although the text does not provide specific architectural or historical details of the Church of St.Martin, its existence in this rural and hydrological context suggests a heritage linked to the local history and religious traditions of the Brie.
