Origin and history

Église Saint-Martin de Louvrechy is a parish church located in the village of Louvrechy, in the Somme department, in the Hauts-de-France region. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it combines stone and brick in a Gothic style, with walls reinforced by foothills and a quadrangular bell tower covered with d'ardoise. Its interior houses notable works, such as a 17th century Virgin of Mercy, an 18th century high altar, and a 19th century sculpted group of Calvary.

The building has been protected as historical monuments since its inscription by order of 16 December 1969. It belongs to the commune and preserves architectural and artistic elements bearing witness to its evolution throughout the centuries. The precise location, 36 Rue de l'Église in Louvrechy, is referenced in the Mérimée database under the code Insee 80494.

The Church of Saint Martin is part of a broader historical context, where parish churches played a central role in community life, both religiously and socially. In Picardia, as in other regions, these buildings served as places for gathering, praying and preserving the local artistic heritage, reflecting the beliefs and know-how of successive periods.
