Origin and history

The church Saint-Martin-de-Tours Saint-Blaise in Champsanglard, dated the 12th century, is a historical monument whose tradition records a donation to Saint-Martial de Limoges in 833. It was then attached to the archiprired of Anzemus. Its architecture consists of a unique nave of two spans, extended by a semicircular apse. Subsequent additions include a sacristy and a northern chapel. The western facade features a revamped Limousin portal, decorated with frieze columns and capitals, while the bedside, raised by a tower today arased, preserves traces of heavy and murderous.

The building, fortified and enhanced, has carved models representing animals and human figures. The triumphal arch in basket handle, decorated with hooked and palmette capitals, marks the entrance of the vaulted choir in cul-de-four. These elements reflect a dual religious and defensive vocation, typical of limousine Romanesque churches. The ensemble was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 18 September 1992, and today belongs to the commune of Champsanglard.

The location of the church in the Creuse department is a testament to the medieval religious architecture of the region. Its portal and carved decorations illustrate the influence of Limousin art, while its defensive arrangements recall the troubles of medieval times. The accuracy of its location is estimated as satisfactory a priori (level 6/10), according to available data.
