Origin and history

The Saint-Martin church of Tourville-sur-Arques is a Catholic building located in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy. Built in the 13th century, it depended from the 12th century on the abbey of Saint-Georges-de-Boscherville, highlighting its historical and religious importance in the region. The building, built in sandstone, is characterized by a sober architecture with two naves and a flat bedside, typical of some Norman rural churches.

The church is home to several remarkable heritage features, including 16th-century baptismal fonts, an eagle-lutrin and a polychrome Child Virgin, both dating from the 17th century. A funeral liter is also preserved, as well as a commemorative plaque dedicated to Armand Thomas Hue de Miromesnil, buried in 1796. These objects bear witness to the artistic and liturgical evolution of the place throughout the centuries.

Ranked a historic monument by decree of April 14, 1930, the church is now owned by the municipality of Tourville-sur-Arques. Its registration reflects its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its furniture. Available sources, such as the Mérimée base or local works, confirm its central role in the religious and historical heritage of the Seine-Maritime.
