Origin and history
The Church of St Martin of Wavrans-sur-Ternoise is a religious building built between the last quarter of the 16th and 17th centuries. Located in the department of Pas-de-Calais, it is representative of the religious architecture of this period in the Hauts-de-France region. Its partial inscription in the title of Historic Monuments, especially for its nave, dates from 1926, highlighting its local heritage importance.
The church nave, protected by ministerial decree, is the most remarkable element of the monument. The precise location of the building at 38 Rue de Fruges is attested by GPS coordinates deemed satisfactory. Owned by the commune, the church is part of a historical context where religious buildings played a central role in the social and spiritual life of villages in northern France.
Available sources, such as the Merimée and Monumentum, confirm its status as a Historic Monument and its membership in the communal heritage. Although little detail is provided on its specific history, its architecture and protection testify to its anchoring in the cultural landscape of Hauts-de-France for centuries.
