Origin and history

The Saint-Martin des Loges Church is a Catholic church located in the hamlet of Les Loges, on the town of Coudrecieux, in the Sarthe department (Pays de la Loire). This town was absorbed by Coudrecieux in 1808. The building, which has been listed as a historic monument since 1952, is distinguished by its 11th century Romanesque nave, narrow windows and two-storey stone bell tower. The main door, in a full arch, has a double archvolt, while a Romanesque chapel extends the church to the south.

The 15th century murals, located on the vault of the choir, represent musical angels and constitute a major heritage element. The church also houses secondary altars, a altarpiece and a cross Christ, classified as objects. The local association Les Amis de l'Église des Loges conducted extensive historical research on the seigneury of the Lodges and the history of the building, while participating in its preservation.

The architecture of the church, combining Romanesque elements (nef, bell tower, chapel) and late medieval decorations (paintings), makes it one of the oldest religious testimonies in the department. Its registration in 1952 aims to protect this heritage, both for its artistic interest and for its role in local history.
