The bedside, the transept, the facade (Box AX 23): inscription by decree of 2 March 1926

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Martin-et-Saint-Roch, located in the Cher department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a religious building dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. It illustrates the local medieval architecture, with a primitive facade keeping a door in the middle of a hangar decorated with a double row of harpsichords, as well as a transept surmounted by a central bell tower. These elements, combined with a choir finished with a flat bedside, testify to the constructive techniques of the time.

The nave of the church was completely rebuilt in 1894, marking a major intervention in its architectural history. Among its most remarkable components, the bedside, transept and facade were protected by an inscription under the title of the Historical Monuments on 2 March 1926. These parts, identified under the Cadastral reference AX 23, reflect the heritage importance of the site, now owned by the municipality of Ids-Saint-Roch.

The monument is part of a rural context typical of the Centre-Val de Loire, where parish churches played a central role in medieval community life. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a social and cultural landmark for the inhabitants. The presence of a central bell tower, characteristic of Romanesque churches, underlines its role in the spatial and symbolic organization of the village.

Available sources, including the Monumentum database and the Merimée data, specify that the exact address of the church is the 16 Route de Lignières in Ids-Saint-Roch (code Insee 18112). Although GPS location is considered "passable" (note 5/10), this information clearly identifies the monument in its geographic and historical environment. No mention is made of its current accessibility or of any tourist functions (visits, rentals).
