Origin and history

The church of Saint-Martin de Juvigny, located in Haute-Savoie, is a Catholic religious building built in 1841. It replaces an old building whose exact location has been reused to build this new building. This place of worship is part of the local architectural landscape, marked by neoclassical influences visible in its structure.

The entrance door to the church, the oldest element still in place, comes from the primitive building and dates back to the 15th century. It is decorated with an inscription bearing the monogram of Christ and the Virgin, bearing witness to the Marian and Christian devotion of the medieval era. This gate is a rare vestige of the original church, which disappeared during the 19th century reconstruction.

The interior of the church was completely restored in 2000, highlighting trompe l'oeil techniques that now adorn the walls. This work has given the building a contemporary shine while respecting its historical character. Among the remarkable elements, the bell of 1723, classified as Historic Monuments since 1943, represents a precious sound and material heritage.

The Saint-Martin church is part of the diocese of Annecy and is one of the emblematic churches of Haute-Savoie. Its history reflects the architectural and religious evolutions of the region, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary era, through the major transformations of the 19th century.
