Origin and history
The Saint-Maurice church of Bouconville-sur-Madt is a Catholic religious building built in the 15th century. Located in the department of the Meuse, it is emblematic of the religious architecture of this period in the Lorraine region, now integrated in the Great East. Its classification as historic monuments in 1921 reflects its heritage value and its importance to the local heritage.
The construction of churches in the 15th century in Lorraine is part of an architectural and religious renewal after the crises of the Middle Ages. These buildings served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for village communities. Their architecture often reflected late Gothic influences, while integrating local elements specific to regional constructive traditions.
Saint-Maurice Church, like other monuments of the Meuse, is now protected and maintained to preserve its historical heritage. Its classification in 1921 ensures its conservation and allows visitors to discover a significant example of the religious heritage of Lorraine. The churches of that time played a central role in the social and spiritual life of the villages, serving as a framework for religious ceremonies, community gatherings and sometimes local decisions.
