Origin and history
The Saint-Nicodeme church of Saint-Nicodeme is a historical monument whose oldest parts date back to the 16th century. The transept and nave, built at the beginning of the seventeenth century, are based on 16th century plans and incorporate jobs of the same period. These elements demonstrate architectural continuity between the two epochs, despite subsequent adaptations.
The choir was entirely rebuilt between 1862 and 1882, reflecting the liturgical and aesthetic needs of the 19th century. The sacristy and chapel of the baptismal fonts, also added in the 19th century, complete this ensemble. These changes illustrate the evolution of religious practices and construction techniques over centuries.
The church, accompanied by its cemetery and a cross, was listed as a Historical Monument by order of 19 February 1964. This classification protects both religious and architectural heritage, characteristic of Breton territory. Today, the building remains open to the public through the engagement of local volunteers, perpetuating its central role in the community.
The location of the church, specified by the Merimée base, is located in the commune of Saint-Nicodeme (Côtes-d-D-Armor), in Brittany. His address, 8 Leuger Louis Marie le Mener, and his code Insee (22320) anchor the monument in a clear geographical and administrative context. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), according to available data.
Visual sources, such as Creative Commons licensed photographs (credit: Crepi22), as well as Street View digital tools, allow a virtual approach to the site. These resources complement historical and architectural information, providing a more complete view of this Breton heritage.
Finally, the church property belongs to the municipality of Saint-Nicodeme, stressing its collective importance. Its daily openness, ensured by volunteers, reinforces its status as a living place, both spiritual and cultural, for residents and visitors.
