Origin and history
The church Saint-Ouen de Verrières, located in the Orne department in Normandy, is a Catholic religious building built mainly in the 15th century. However, it retains older architectural traces, including its choir and the cross of the transept, dated the 12th century. The nave and the two sides, on the other hand, were erected in the sixteenth century, thus illustrating a stylistic evolution over centuries.
The building is distinguished by its flamboyant Gothic architecture, visible in its openings and overall structure. The nave, flanked by two chapels to the north and south, leads to a choir finished by an apse, itself framed by side chapels. A notable feature lies in the nave, cut to the west and masked by a veneer of wood concealing the frame of the arrow.
The church houses remarkable furniture, including statues, retables and a Virgin of Mercy, classified as objects. Among its decorative elements are a 19th century cross road and stained glass windows made in the 1940s. These works bear witness to the artistic and religious richness of the place throughout the eras.
Classified as a historical monument by decree of 24 March 1975, the church experienced a period of advanced degradation before being restored between 2011 and 2012. This restoration, envisaged in 2006, has preserved this architectural and cultural heritage for future generations.
Today, Saint-Ouen Church remains an active place of worship and a testimony to the religious and architectural history of Normandy. Its location in Verrières, in a rural setting, makes it a point of interest for lovers of heritage and sacred art.
