The choir and the bell tower: by order of 22 July 1913

Origin and history

Saint-Oyen Church of Saint-Yan is a religious monument located in the commune of Saint-Yan, Saône-et-Loire, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. It is associated with the Notre-Dame Chapel, an ancient parish church, now located in the communal cemetery. This place of worship bears witness to local Christian architecture, with remarkable elements such as its choir and bell tower, protected since 1913.

The choir and bell tower of Saint-Oyen Church were classified as historical monuments by order of 22 July 1913. This classification underscores their heritage and architectural value. The chapel Notre-Dame, originally parish church, lost this function after the construction of the church Saint-Oyen, thus marking an evolution in the religious organization of the commune.

Saint-Yan, like many rural communes of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, has seen its religious heritage evolve over the centuries. Churches and chapels played a central role in community life, serving as places of worship, gathering and collective memory. Their preservation, like that of Saint-Oyen Church, reflects the local attachment to this historical and cultural heritage.
