Church as a whole: registration by decree of 2 December 1948
Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens de Ligneville is a religious building built over centuries, from the 12th to the 16th century. Located in the Vosges department, it embodies the architectural and spiritual evolution of the Lorraine region, now integrated into the Grand Est. Its registration as a Historic Monument in 1948 reflects its heritage value and its importance to the local heritage.
The location of the church, at 70 Rue de l'Eglise in Ligneville, is documented in the Mérimée base, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10). The building, protected as a whole by decree, belongs to the commune and reflects the religious and community history of this rural territory. The Vosges, marked by a tradition of Romanesque and Gothic art, house many similar buildings, often at the heart of village life.
The church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens, like many monuments of that time, served as a place of worship, assembly and identity symbol for the inhabitants. The construction periods, spanning four centuries, suggest architectural changes related to liturgical needs, stylistic evolutions or historical hazards. The absence of detailed sources about its founders or its specific transformations limits the precise knowledge of its history, but its status as a Historical Monument guarantees its preservation for future generations.
