Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Blagnac, located in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region, is a religious building dating back to the 12th century. It underwent major transformations in the 15th century, including the vaulting of its nave and the addition of a polygonal sanctuary decorated with cross-sections of warheads, ivy and thirdrons. These architectural elements illustrate the evolution of construction techniques between the Middle Ages and the end of this period.
The church bell tower, characteristic of its octagonal shape, rises on four floors and incorporates a arched porch of warheads at its base. Two turrets provide the transition between the square porch and the octagonal tower, while the upper gallery and the arrow, added later, reflect modern interventions. This bell tower, both functional and decorative, bears witness to the symbolic importance of churches in the medieval urban landscape.
Listed as historical monuments by order of 23 December 1926, Saint Peter's Church today belongs to the municipality of Blagnac. Its inscription recognizes its heritage value, linked to its hybrid Romanesque and Gothic architecture, as well as its historical role in local religious and community life. Available sources, such as the Merimée or Monumentum base, highlight its precise location at the 1 Interior Square of the Church, confirming its anchoring in the urban fabric of Blagnac.
