Origin and history
The church of Saint-Pierre de Boulon is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Boulon in the department of Calvados in Normandy. Most of the 12th and 18th centuries, it depicts the ecclesiastical architecture of these periods, with notable modifications such as the bays pierced in the 14th century and the construction of the bell tower in the middle of the 18th century. This monument, still in cultural activity, reflects the stylistic and functional evolution of Norman rural churches over centuries.
Classified as historical monuments since 1913 for its portal, Saint Peter's Church is linked to the local and religious history of the region. Prior to 1070, his patronage was given to the Abbey of Fontenay by Raoul Tesson, a Norman lord, which showed his importance from the Middle Ages. The building, owned by the municipality, retains a variety of architectural elements, such as its built-up bell tower, typical of the region. Its role in the community, both spiritual and social, is part of the historical landscape of the Norman Bocage.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its status as a Historical Monument and its integration into the Christian architectural heritage of Calvados. Although the details of its use or use are limited, the church remains a symbol of the local heritage, open to visit according to communal arrangements. Its precise location, at 55 Rue du Gable Blanc, makes it a point of interest for lovers of history and religious architecture in Lower Normandy.
