Origin and history
Saint Peter's Church in Breil-sur-Mérize is a religious building built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Located in the municipality of Breil-sur-Mérize, in the department of Sarthe (region Pays de la Loire), it embodies the medieval sacred architecture of this period. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 8 October 1984 bears witness to its heritage value.
The location of the church at 3 Rue du Eleven November 1918 is attested by the data of the Merimée database and GPS coordinates. Owned by the commune, it is an integral part of the local historical landscape. Available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its status as a protected church, although details of its current use (visits, rentals, etc.) are not specified.
In medieval times, churches like Saint Peter played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for social and religious events. In the Sarthe, as elsewhere in France, these buildings reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the daily organization and cohesion of villages.
