Church: by decree of 20 December 1920
Origin and history
The Church of Saint-Pierre de Charleville is a religious building built in the 15th century, located in the commune of Charleville, in the department of Marne (Great East region). This monument, classified by decree of 20 December 1920, is representative of the medieval architectural heritage of Champagne-Ardenne. Its exact location, 4 Church Square, is documented in the Merimée and Monumentum bases, although the accuracy of its location is considered fair (note 5/10).
The protection of Saint Peter's Church as a Historic Monument reflects its cultural and historical importance. Owned by the commune of Charleville, it is mentioned in the archives under the code Insee 51129, attached to the arrondissement of Châlons-en-Champagne. Although available sources (Monumentum, internal data) do not specify its current use (visits, rental, accommodation), its ranking reflects its heritage value.
Photographs of the building, such as that of Nicole-Christiane Paladini under Creative Commons license, contribute to its visual documentation. The absence of details of its stylistic characteristics or any subsequent modifications in the sources limits the knowledge of its architectural evolution. Its status as a listed monument in 1920 nevertheless makes it a major historical landmark for the city of Charleville and its region.
