Origin and history

The Saint-Pierre de Lussant Church is an emblematic religious building in the Romanesque style, located in the village of Lussant, Charente-Maritime. Built in the 12th century, it illustrates the architectural features of this period, with a stone structure and a massive square tower, typical of the Romanesque churches of the region.

The church is distinguished by its Romanesque bedside, composed of a chorus span and a semicircular apse decorated with committed columns. These architectural elements, combined with curved windows and a slightly broken arch portal, reflect the craftsmanship and construction techniques of the time. The nave, relatively short, shows traces of repair, especially in the upper part of its southern wall.

Ranked among the historical monuments since 14 June 1928, the church of Saint-Pierre de Lussant bears witness to the importance of religious heritage in Saintonge. Its inclusion in the inventory of historical monuments highlights its architectural and cultural value, while ensuring its preservation for future generations.
