Origin and history
Saint-Pierre de Mauperthuis Church is a Catholic building located in the Seine-et-Marne department of Île-de-France. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it is part of a larger architectural project led by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, who then works at Mauperthuis castle for the Marquis de Montesquiou, local lord. Ledoux proposed the plans of the church in 1764, marking the beginning of its realization.
The building of the church was finally completed by architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart. The building was consecrated on September 17, 1774, becoming a central place of worship for the parish. Its style reflects the architectural influences of the time, combining classicism and innovations unique to its designers.
The Saint Peter church is partially protected as historical monuments, with a first inscription in 1983 for its western façade and bell tower, followed by a second in 1996 for the entire building. These protections underline its heritage importance and its link with local history, notably with the Mauperthuis castle and its sponsor, the Marquis de Montesquiou.
