Church: registration by decree of 19 November 1942
Origin and history
The Church of St Peter of Nestalas, located in the municipality of Pierrefitte-Nestalas in Occitanie, is a religious building built in the 14th century. It is distinguished by its defensive character, marked by the presence of mâchicoulis and a crenellated parapet, architectural elements typical of the fortified churches of this time. These developments reflect the protection needs of local populations in a medieval context marked by conflict and insecurity.
The nave of the church ends with a flat bedside, an architectural characteristic that contrasts with the more common round or polygonal bedside. This choice could be linked to local defensive constraints or constructive traditions. The building was listed as Historic Monuments by order of November 19, 1942, recognizing its heritage and historical value.
The church is today the property of the commune of Pierrefitte-Nestalas, in the Hautes-Pyrénées department. Its state of conservation and location, specified as "very satisfactory" (note 8/10), make it an accessible and representative monument of the religious and military heritage of the Occitanie region. No information is available on its openness to the public or its current functions (visits, rentals, accommodation).
