Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre de Pluzunet, located in the Côtes-d-Armor, is attested as parish from 1369. At that time, it was modest in size and was only enlarged at the end of the seventeenth century, under the impulse of Charles de Boiséon, Marquis lord of Coatnizan. Its state of degradation advanced at the beginning of the sixteenth century, with parts threatening to ruin, led to renovation and expansion work carried out between 1747 and 1849. This work included ancient materials, including four 14th-century pillars, flamboyant-style fillings and a capital dated 1628.

During the French Revolution, the church organ was damaged and finally destroyed in 1814. Among the remarkable elements of the building are a 12th century wooden cross, preserved in the nave, on the right side. These successive transformations reflect both the liturgical needs of the parish and the historical hazards that have affected the region, including revolutionary unrest.

The St. Peter's church was listed in the inventory of historical monuments by decree of 20 January 1926, recognizing its heritage value. Its architecture combines traces of different eras, from the Middle Ages to the additions of the 18th and 19th centuries, illustrating the evolution of construction techniques and artistic styles in Brittany. The presence of re-employment, such as the 14th century pillars, reflects a desire to preserve the past while adapting the building to the changing needs of the community.

The location of Pluzunet, in a department marked by a rich religious heritage, underlines the importance of this church as a place of worship and assembly for more than six centuries. Its history is also linked to that of the local lords, such as Charles de Boiséon, whose patronage allowed its extension to a pivotal period between Renaissance and modern times.
