Church (Cd. A 329): entry by order of 28 December 1984
Origin and history
The Saint-Pierre de Santes church is a religious building built over centuries, from the 15th to the 19th century. Located in the municipality of Santes, in the department of Nord (Hauts-de-France), it reflects the architectural and cultural evolutions of these periods. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by decree of 28 December 1984 bears witness to its heritage value, particularly for its protected elements, such as the main structure of the church (cadastre A 329).
The location of the church, at 14 Place Jean-Baptiste Hennion, is documented in the Merimée base, with geographical accuracy deemed satisfactory (level 8 of 10). Owned by the municipality of Santes, it is identified by code Insee 59553, attached to the arrondissement of Lille. Although available sources (Monumentum, internal data) do not specify its current use (visits, rentals, etc.), its status as a monument makes it a place of interest for local heritage.
The periods of church construction, covering the 15th, 16th, 18th and 19th centuries, suggest a rich history, marked by successive additions or modifications. These centuries correspond to pivotal periods for the region, between the late Middle Ages, Renaissance, and industrial revolutions, where churches played a central role in community life, both spiritually and socially. The lack of details about specific characters or events related to the building limits the knowledge of its precise history, but its inscription as a Historical Monument in 1984 makes it an official witness of this past.
