Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Villers-lès-Luxeuil is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Haute-Saône, in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it replaces a parish church attested from the 12th century. The current building was rebuilt between 1765 and 1767 according to the plans of Jean Gruyer, local entrepreneur and architect. This project marks a complete overhaul of the medieval building, adapted to the liturgical and aesthetic needs of the period.
In the 19th century, a stand was added above the entrance, slightly changing the interior space. The church was listed as historic monuments by order of 20 July 1995, thereby recognizing its heritage value. Today it belongs to the municipality of Villers-lès-Luxeuil and remains an active place of worship, while at the same time bearing witness to 18th century religious architecture in Franche-Comté.
The location of the building, at 1 Rue des Écoliers, reflects its anchoring in the historic urban fabric. Its registration in the Merimée database under Cadastre code D 219 confirms its protected status. Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its importance in the local heritage, alongside other monuments of the Haute-Saône.
