Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre-des-Minimes, located in Clermont-Ferrand on the Place de Jaude, was built in the 17th century for the Minimes convent. Its classical architecture reflects the style of the religious orders of the time. After the Revolution, it became a parish church, considered too small for its new function.

In the 19th century, the architect Jean Teillard undertook his enlargement in accordance with the spirit of the 17th century. The building now consists of a four-span nave, side chapels, a salient transept and a dome-shaped tower. Interior sculptures, including composite capitals, are the work of Henri Gourguillon.

The church also houses a altarpiece from the old church of the Cordeliers. Since 1987, it has been listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. Its flat bedside includes a secondary porch and sacristy, while its eastern entrance overlooks the iconic Jaude Square.

The building illustrates the architectural and religious evolution of Clermont-Ferrand, blending conventual heritage and adaptation to parish needs. The woodwork of the sacristy and the carved elements bear witness to remarkable craftsmanship, characteristic of the periods of construction and renovation.
