Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens de Réssey, located in the Haute-Marne department, is a building dating back to the 13th century. His choir, typical of this medieval period, bears witness to a religious architecture characteristic of the region. This first element, preserved throughout the centuries, constitutes the historical core of the monument.
The nave, on the other hand, was completely rebuilt in the second half of the eighteenth century, more precisely in 1773. This reorganization is part of the modernization of religious buildings, often motivated by structural or aesthetic needs. The plans for this reconstruction were entrusted to architect François Buron, whose name remains associated with this major transformation.
Ranked among the Historical Monuments, the church received official protection by order of 30 January 1996. This inscription concerns the entire building, stressing its heritage importance for the commune of Lower and the Greater East. Today, it remains a place of worship and a witness to the architectural evolutions between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
