Origin and history

Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens Church of Bouray-sur-Juine, dedicated to Saint Peter, is a Catholic parish building located in the Essonne department. Founded in the 12th century, it suffered major damage during the Hundred Years War after being burned down. Its reconstruction took place in the 15th century, marking a first major transformation of its structure of Romanesque origin.

In the 19th century, the church was significantly restored, including the installation of new stained glass windows. These works aim to preserve and embellish the heritage, while adapting the building to the liturgical needs of the time. Among the oldest remains, the Romanesque tower and flat bedside are still visible, bearing witness to its medieval heritage.

The church also houses Renaissance tombstones, rare and valuable for the study of local history. Since 17 February 1950, it has been listed as historic monuments by decree, recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the commune, it remains an active place of worship and a symbol of Bouray-sur-Juine's religious past.

Its exact location, Place de l'Église, and its Insee code (91095) confirm its anchoring in the territory of Essonne, in the Île-de-France region. Available sources, such as the Merimée base or diocesan archives, document its architectural evolution and its role in the community.
