Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Lavernose-Lacasse, built in the 12th and 13th centuries, was consecrated in 1236. It was placed under the patronage of the chapter of Uzerte and the priory of Villaudron. Today, only part of its Romanesque apse remains visible, while the lower sides, restored in the 18th and 19th centuries, were enhanced to align with the main nave. The building ends with three circular apses, a remarkable architectural trait.

Most of the church's Romanesque capitals are decorated with vegetal motifs (foliage), although four of them feature historiated scenes. The current bell tower, a square stone and brick tower, is not original and results from a later reconstruction. The church was classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 11 April 1950, and today it belongs to the municipality of Lavernose-Lacasse.

The location of the building at 2 Rue de l'Eglise is approximate, with a cartographic accuracy considered "passable" (note 5/10). Its architecture thus combines preserved medieval elements, such as capitals and apses, with subsequent additions or modifications, reflecting complex history and evolutionary uses over the centuries.
