The St. Peter's church, in full, parcel number 432 in the cadastre section A: inscription by order of 11 October 2021, amended by order of inscription of 20 January 2022
Origin and history
The church of Saint Peter, located in Ormoy (Eure-et-Loir), is a religious building built between the 15th and 16th centuries. It embodies the typical architecture of this period, marked by the transition between the flamboyant Gothic and the early influences of the Renaissance. Classified as a Historic Monument, it was fully protected by a registration order in 2021, amended in 2022, attesting to its heritage value.
Ormoy, like many villages in the Centre-Val de Loire region in the 15th and 16th centuries, was organized around its church, a central place of community and religious life. At that time, parish churches served not only as a framework for offices, but also as a gathering point for local decisions and festivals. Their construction often reflected the prosperity of the village, linked to agriculture or river trade, characteristic of this region crossed by the Loire and its tributaries.
The recent protection of Saint Peter's church (2021-2022) underlines its importance in the local heritage. Owned by the municipality of Ormoy, it remains a testimony of the construction techniques and religious art of the late Middle Ages and early modern times. Its inscription in the title of Historic Monuments guarantees its preservation for future generations, while allowing its potential to be opened to the public or to community uses, such as room rental.
