Origin and history

Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Guiscriff is a Catholic church in the Morbihan department of Brittany. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it embodies the religious architecture of this period in the region. Its designation as historic monuments, effective since 14 April 1931, bears witness to its heritage value and local importance.

Each year in December, the church attracts thousands of visitors thanks to a unique exhibition of crèches from around the world, initiated by Father Joseph Galerne. In 2012, this event welcomed approximately 20,000 people, highlighting its cultural and tourist impact. These crèches, more than 1,000, illustrate the diversity of Christian traditions around the globe.

The building, owned by the municipality of Guiscriff, is located precisely at 4 Place de la Mairie, according to the coordinates available. Its state of conservation and its openness to the public make it a living place, both spiritual and cultural. Administrative data, such as its Insee code (56081) and its membership in the district of Pontivy, confirm its territorial anchoring in the Morbihan.

The official registration of protected elements (cadastre AI 326) by order of 17 April 1931 strengthens its legal protection. Although the accuracy of its location is considered fair (level 5/10), the church remains a central landmark in the local landscape, as evidenced by the photos available under the Creative Commons license and the cross references between Wikipedia and Monumentum.
