Origin and history
Saint-Polycarpe de Castet Church is a religious monument located in the commune of Castet, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Available data indicate that it was built or modified at several periods: 11th century, 15th century, 16th century, and finally during the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. These successive phases suggest a marked architectural and historical evolution, typical of religious buildings that have traversed the centuries.
Churches like Saint-Polycarpe played a central role in the lives of local communities, particularly in New Aquitaine. In the Middle Ages and modern times, they served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants. Their construction and maintenance often reflected the religious, social and sometimes political importance of the locality.
Changes made over the centuries could meet liturgical needs, stylistic changes or structural imperatives.
