Origin and history

Saint-Rémy Church is a Catholic church in Dieppe, Normandy, built between the 16th and 17th centuries. It is a typical example of the religious architecture of this period in the region, marked by late Gothic influences and renaissance. The building was classified as historic monuments in 1910, highlighting its heritage and architectural importance.

The church is closely linked to local history, notably through notable personalities such as Charles Le Moyne de Longueuil and Châteauguay. Born in Dieppe in 1626, he was baptized in this church before becoming a pioneer of New France. His legacy includes major figures of French colonization in North America, such as his sons Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville and Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, founder of New Orleans.

On the architectural level, the church of Saint-Rémy benefited from restorations, notably under the direction of Lucien Lefort, a departmental architect, although the precise details of these interventions remain partially documented. Today, it remains an emblematic place of the Dieppois heritage, open to the public and managed by the municipality.
