Origin and history
The church of Saint-Roch de Génos is a Romanesque building whose nave was enlarged by two western spans at the beginning of the seventeenth century. A northern collateral was added in the 19th century, marking the main transformation phases of the building. Inside, the abside houses murals illustrating Christ's childhood and passion, showing a remarkable artistic heritage.
The oldest paintings, located in the bedside, date from the late 15th or early 16th century. The flames of the axial window of the choir and the north wall of the right span of the choir date back to the seventeenth century. These works, whose oldest drawing is highlighted with a black trait, reflect the stylistic and iconographic evolution of local religious art throughout the centuries.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 15 February 2006, the church belongs to the municipality of Genos. Its architecture and painted decorations make it an example of Occitan rural churches, marked by successive additions while preserving medieval elements. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), according to available data.
