Origin and history
The Church of Saint-Samson in Bobital is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Bobital in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany. It was built between 1857 and 1862 in a field near the town hall, replacing an older church dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. The latter was at the present location of the town square, surrounded by a cemetery, as evidenced by the ancient cadastres.
In 2015-16, church stained glass windows were the subject of a restoration project led by the Heritage Foundation. The project aimed to preserve these artistic and historical elements, highlighting the heritage importance of the building to the local community.
The church of Saint-Samson is part of the Breton religious landscape, under the authority of the diocese of Saint-Brieuc and Tréguier. It is an example of 19th-century ecclesiastical architecture, while perpetuating the memory of an earlier medieval place of worship.
